Kinning as Environmental Justice Praxis
Dr. Giovanna Di Chiro
April 13, 2022
12:30-1:30pm

Drawing on Robin Kimmerer's concept of "kinning" (creating diverse kinship relations through active imagining and coalition-building), I discuss my community-engaged approaches to teaching and research. I will focus on my course, Environmental Justice: Theory & Action, and my campus-community collaborations with environmental justice organizations in Chester and Philadelphia.

Giovanna Di Chiro is Professor of Environmental Studies at Swarthmore College where she teaches courses on environmental justice theory, ecofeminism(s), and community sustainability, and coordinates the program on Environmental Justice and Climate Resilience. Di Chiro has published widely on the issues of human rights, food security, and environmental and climate justice.

PPEH offers a lunch series, Working Wednesdays, designed to showcase in-progress Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) straddling theoretical and practical environmental concerns. These sessions take place on Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30 sharp. This session is open to the public and requires an RSVP. Grab a lunch and join us on Zoom!
