Call for Applications: Undergraduate Digital Engagement Interns

Digital Engagement Internship (Undergraduate, summer internship)

The Penn Program in Environmental Humanities (PPEH) at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for undergraduate public humanities digital engagement interns for the summer of 2021. We are seeking two interns to support digital engagements with PPEH's existing and forthcoming experiments and projects. This position would include exhibit curation, SRC metadata and other improvements to our digital archives, updating materials to meet current accessibility standards, ambassadorship for the new EH minor, and building relationships with environmental humanists and community partners across PPEH's public channels, including The Canopy podcast and Field Notes blog, and social media. The PPEH Public Research Interns will meet twice weekly with PPEH staff.  

Application materials should include a cover letter that clearly explains the candidate’s qualifications and reasons for application (maximum of 750 words), an unofficial academic transcript, and one reference letter from a Penn faculty member. All applicants will be reviewed for academic excellence, potential or proven experience in public-facing projects, proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines, and the applicants’ alignment with PPEH’s four core commitments:

1.    broadly interdisciplinary, collaborative research on the environment across the arts and sciences

2.    arts-driven inquiry into place, particularly our campus and the City of Philadelphia as well as urban ecology in other global contexts

3.    public engagement, particularly in and with environmental justice communities and concerns

4.    the creation and growth of living archives via practices of urgent collection

Applicants with research and/or creative interests in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: documentary research, digital exhibit production, community science, public art, photography, public research with youth and elders, graphic design, web design, sound/video editing, social media, and/or journalism.

The Fellowship carries a summer stipend of $4,500. The Fellow will work from June 1 through August 1 for 35 hours weekly and will be held remotely. Please send application materials to director@ppehlab.org by May 14, 2021.
