From Home to Community to City: Approaches to Air Monitoring across Philadelphia

Air pollution monitoring campaigns support policy development and health effects research. As an industrial city with multiple spatially clustered pollution sources (e.g., international airport, major port, highways), Philadelphia is an important setting for targeted air monitoring studies. This talk will include the history and current state of air monitoring in the Philadelphia region, recent citywide initiatives, and a focus on how local community-based monitoring efforts can supplement and fill in the gaps of regulatory monitoring.

Dr. Sheila Tripathy is a Research Fellow at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health in the Healthy Cities Lab. Her work focuses on collaborating with community partners to organize and implement projects that address local and regional environmental health concerns. Previously, Sheila was a postdoctoral fellow at Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health.

PPEH offers a lunch series, Working Wednesdays, designed to showcase in-progress Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) straddling theoretical and practical environmental concerns. These sessions take place on Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30 sharp.
