Join us this week as we hear presentations from our undergraduate Public Research Intern teams with Dr. Jared Farmer and Dr. Franca Trubiano.

Petrosylvania

Prof. Jared Farmer (Department of History, Penn) will provide an overview of his collaborative project, "Petrosylvania," and then Public Research Interns Georgia Ray and Mikayla Golub will describe their research related to African Americans and fossil fuel industries as evidenced in the Philadelphia Tribune.

From Petrol to Plastics - Re-powering people at home

Prof. Franca Trubiano and her team's research project seeks understanding of the relationship between fossil fuels, plastics, and human health, particularly in Philadelphia area codes 19145 and 19146. This community adjacent to the PES refinery has been and continues to be exposed to environmental toxins at rate that exceeds city, state and national levels. PPEH interns have reviewed the possibility for a robust air monitoring program in the area and have studied the future impacts of the HILCO redevelopment plan.

PPEH offers a lunch series, Working Wednesdays, designed to showcase in-progress Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) straddling theoretical and practical environmental concerns with a focus on our mid-Atlantic region. These sessions take place on Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30 sharp.

All sessions are open to the Penn community but require RSVP. Grab a lunch and join us!
