Join us for this rare opportunity to glimpse into the world that is an oil refinery. This short sneak-peek screening of Bilal Motley's Midnight Oil will offer an insider's look at the June 21 explosion at Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery in South Philadelphia and the subsequent shut down of the facility. A PES worker for nearly 15 years, Motley narrates his own experience of that near-catastrophic event against a growing awareness of the fossil fuel industry's slower, quieter disasters in surrounding neighborhoods and around the world. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmaker Bilal Motley, Asst Professor of English & Cinema Studies Rahul Mukherjee, and fenceline neighbor and community activist, Melissa Toby, moderated by PPEH faculty director Bethany Wiggin.
