September 30, 2020: Telling the Multilayered Stories of the Susquehanna, Katherine Faull, Bucknell University

Stories of the Susquehanna began as a unique research project focused on a watershed, utilizing multimedia scholarship to articulate, highlight, and learn from stories that form our region, our communities, our ecosystems, and ourselves. This long-term collaborative project in environmental humanities, community studies, and natural history focuses on the question of what constitutes an eco-region as a confluence of cultures and ecologies. The project emerges from a decade of research, planning, collaboration and teaching in and outside the classroom by scholars at educational institutions in the Susquehanna watershed, in collaboration with leaders of Native nations, community members, and undergraduate researchers. Katie will talk about the challenges and opportunities afforded by such a long-term collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to public-facing environmental humanities work.

Katherine Faull is Professor of German and Humanities at Bucknell University. Since 2010 she has worked with scholars, students, Native nations, communities, conservation groups, PBS affiliate WVIA, and state and federal agencies on stories of the Chesapeake watershed. She is co-editor of the book series, Stories of the Susquehanna published by Bucknell University Press.
