Rehana is a joint PhD student in Education and Sociology; she has a Masters in Historical Studies from the University of Cape Town, with an interest in oral histories and and is broadly interested in how knowledge and expertise from the global South are interacted with in global contexts. Her recent work is interested in understanding climate activism from a social movement and decision-making perspective to better understand what the climate crisis can teach us about public participation and citizens’ relationships collective action at a national and local level. Her dissertation project hopes to do a comparative study between activists in the USA and South Africa to better understand how the totalizing nature of the climate crisis shapes local level organizing.
